Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Today a reader, tomorrow a leader"- Margaret Fuller.
A goal in my classroom is to foster a love for reading and I am proud to say my students always pick up a book in their spare time.
Unfortunately, as we continue to add books to our library, we need a beautiful display to store them all!
Our school is a K-8 neighborhood school where the students are excited to come to school every day!
They love to learn, even when topics may be challenging. Our school does not have a lot of extra money to give teachers the materials they need to create the classroom they desire.
My specific group of 2nd graders are very special to me. This is my first year as a full-time teacher, but I have been with these students since they were in KG. I have seen them grow from little to no skills in reading, to reading chapter books in their spare time.
I am super proud of them, and would love to give them the classroom they deserve!
My Project
In my classroom, we have our books sorted by levels, as well as seasonal books/unit books. I want to utilize this new bookcase to fully showcase the seasonal books we have each month. I take pride in my extensive library I have built, however the bookcase I have currently is not built to showcase all books equally.
I often find books falling into the sack holders and not popping out for kids to read. By having this sturdy bookcase, they will be able to see ALL the books they have to choose from!
My classroom will not only benefit from this bookcase, but my students will too.
They will learn the benefit of hard work and taking pride in keeping our classroom organized.
They are always trying to keep the books neat, but the set-up of our current bookcase causes the books to fall easily. The new bookcase will allow more books to be read by more students; which will only enhance the reading and comprehension skills we are trying to teach them in the classroom.
