My school district is one of the most diverse district in the state of Missouri. We serve students in 6th-8th grade and provide rigorous academics, dedicated teachers, and a safe learning environment for students of many different ethnicities, backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic levels; throughout the day, I get to touch the lives of 100 of these students.
I teach in a Title I school where around 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch and need additional resources to be successful.
Many students are not native English speakers; others have language and educational needs due to the limited amount of conversation and education they may receive outside of school.
I strive to provide a safe, comfortable, homey environment for all my students. By doing so, I will be able to inspire the students to come to school each day ready to learn and start fresh.
My Project
My students are very excited to have a classroom set of Chromebooks. These computers are currently being shared with four other teachers on my team.
Many of my students do not have computers at home, so they take a lot of pride in keeping these devices safe.
In sharing the computers on my team, we do not have an efficient or safe way to transport computers back and forth from each classroom. We also do not have an appropriate place to house them. This can lead to computers being damaged or lost, all of which are expenses which we would like to avoid.
If we had a Chromebook cart to house our devices, students would be able to take on more responsibility in ensuring that computers are effectively organized. It would also make the devices more accessible for my teammates because we would be able to more efficiently transport them.
