Help me give my students the opportunity to experience "A Hero's Journey" by providing enough novels for a complete class set so that we can enjoy Bilbo's adventures together.
I currently have forty-two students ranging in seventh and eighth grade. We are a small rural school with a very close-knit group of students that have been together for most of their careers in school.
My students love to read.
As part of our curriculum, students complete multiple novel studies throughout the school year. They very much enjoy exploring the world through the eyes of the various characters they encounter. Novels give us a break from the ordinary and an opportunity to experience the extraordinary.
My Project
The majority of our junior high reading curriculum comes from our textbook. However, my students love any opportunity I can provide for them to take a break from the mundane and step into another world much different than their own. By providing them the opportunity to experience the idea of "A Hero's Journey", I believe they will benefit more than they would from our daily texts.
In addition, they will enjoy the opportunity to view the DVD adaptation of this book which will provide us with further avenues for meaningful discussions.
Many of the class novels we currently have are in a state of disrepair. I look forward to being able to provide our junior high students with new novels that will help me stress the value of reading.
