My students need various therapeutic games and toys such as snap-lock beads, touch lights and pegboard to help them improve their occupational therapy skills.
My students are extremely motivated to improve their fine motor abilities, visual perceptual skills and much more.
This school year I am working with 17 amazing and energetic kinders to 3rd graders from a high needs school located in Brooklyn, NY.
My students demonstrate diverse learning disabilities and even more diverse learning needs.
Many of my students have auditory, visual, physical and/or cognitive deficits. They come from various cultural and economic backgrounds which also contributes to their uniqueness. Despite their physical and cognitive deficits, my students are eager to participate during their occupational therapy session. The skilled they learn during their occupational therapy session can help increase their independence with the school and home setting.
My Project
My students need various therapeutic games and toys such as snap-lock beads, touch lights and pegboard. The items I have selected will be used during group and individual occupational therapy sessions within the classroom. The children will use these various fine motor and visual motor games to help strengthen their hands, improve their coordination and increase their ability to participate in the classroom. My students have diverse diagnoses including Autism, Down syndrome, vision/hearing impairment and Cerebral Palsy. These items are ideal for use during occupational therapy sessions to help improve my student's abilities in the following areas: -Fine motor -Writing -Visual perceptual -Visual motor -Spatial Reasoning -Sensory regulation -Cause and Effect -Daily living.
This project will help my students become more engaged during occupational therapy and classroom lessons by allowing students to explore using multiple modalities (tactile, auditory and visual), encouraging student engagement for increased learning opportunities and increasing fine motor and visual perceptual skills that will carryover into academic lessons.
