I am lucky enough to teach in a Dual Immersion Classroom and work with forty-eight different students this year. The fact that they are able to find academic success in both English and Spanish is marvelous!
My kids come from a variety of different backgrounds, but each of them tries their hardest to learn something new every day.
There have been some difficult days, but every day there is at least one "Aha!" moment in my classroom. I really hope you take the time to help my kids while they continue to be successful students.
We use a lot of technology in class, which means that my students have a lot of resources at their fingertips to help them make sense of their world.
My Project
My class of 54 fourth graders is special because I have the opportunity to work with all of my students while teaching them how to understand Spanish. A huge part of Dual Language learning is multimodal instruction opportunities. I try to provide my materials in as many forms as I possibly can, whether that be spoken by me, or read as a class, or through videos and assignments on their computers. Currently I am unable to assign videos for students to watch in class individually because the wall of sound that would come from every student playing the audio at the same time would make it impossible to hear what is being said.
With your help, I will be able to provide my students some quality headphones that they can use throughout the year, and for years to come, to assist them in their learning.
Simply put, these headphones will give students the chance to listen to Spanish from a larger variety of people and places.
I am also including a handful of classroom supplies that will help students pay attention, e.g. the fidget toys. These different toys will help keep students engaged and active in their learning.
