As a Reading Specialist, I work with students who are the lowest 30 percent of their class in reading. My students struggle with reading and they are at least 2-3 grade levels behind their classmates.
We are four unique cities that come together to form one unique school district.
We are a very diverse school and it is my job to help my students reach their fullest academic and social potential. My students deserve to have their individual needs met.
My Project
During small group reading lessons it is important that students have the teacher's undivided attention in order to maximize student learning. Engaging students in reading and creating that positive learning environment that meets the individual needs of the students is very important. Teaching over 30 students a day in small groups makes teaching and student interaction during lessons difficult when we are not all centered in one central location. A horseshoe table would support the teaching and learning during small group instruction.
Having a horseshoe table would allow the students to sit in their individual space allowing me to have a direct view and close proximity to all the students in the group.
A horseshoe table would allow for students and myself to hear the reading, see the writing and monitor the learning happening during lessons. I would be able to provide one-to-one assistance to those that need immediate attention without having to move around the room.
A horseshoe table in our room will have such an impact on the learning that goes on during small group instruction.
Please help us become the best readers that we can be! Reading is the key that will help my student Soar!
