Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our children are dreamers. They are eager and motivated to learn and come from families who are hard working and teaching their children the same motivation for learning. Many of our families fall below the national poverty levels. In addition, English is a second language for the majority of our families or they are bilingual households.
Every child deserves a great start.
Our children deserve no less than great. Our children are getting ready for Kindergarten, and it is our job to prepare them!
My Project
I am requesting two outdoor equipment pieces to add to our existing outdoor space: a three-piece drum set and a metal passenger car. We currently have only a slide and a single crawl-through tunnel in our playground space. Due to limited options outdoors, we have been creative in adding items to the outdoor space over the years. Unfortunately, these pieces were not durable enough to withstand the weather or destruction and vandalism on the playground. Due to this and limited classroom budgets, we have not been able to afford on our own durable playground equipment.
I hope, with your help, to provide my students with the great start they deserve—that every child deserves.
If we are able to add these items to our play space, I believe that our children will be closer to their goal of being ready for kindergarten. They will learn cooperation, sharing, and use and refine their skills such as creativity and imagination.
How we plan to use the materials I am requesting: We currently re-purpose bottles, pans, cookie sheets and many other things into musical instruments, so adding the option of the three-piece drum set will provide my students with another opportunity to create music. With the use of a metal car, I hope to increase the imaginative play that is already occurring. Children play they are going to the movies, they are firefighters driving to a burning house, or police officers driving to a crime scene. We have a few playground steering wheels that children run around and "drive." The passenger car will give children the opportunity to role play a family traveling or a fire crew heading to a fire, and allow for cooperative play and sharing the role of driver and passenger.
