I hope for my students to become writers. My biggest challenge for my small group is finding resources for older grades to have a writers workshop in my classroom. My students will have a better appreciation of writing when they have a purpose.
My students are English Language Learners ( ELL).
They work really hard in my small group instruction. They know some aspects of the English language. My students are strong in listening and speaking but reading and writing is still difficult.
They know we work hard as a team to learn and improve on reading comprehension and writing skills.
My Project
If we get the resources from DonorChoose we will be able to have a writers workshop. I would love to have a writers workshop in my classroom and with the right materials to keep us organized. The activities that we requested are independent and self motivated. My students will see why writing needs to have a purpose. They will have a mini lesson from me and start editing practice either as a group, with a partner, or independently. My students will use the magnetic writing strips to share their thoughts and ideas. We use the magnetic writing charts to discuss different purposes of writing. The writing charts will also organize thoughts and ideas. The fix it sentence books will help students learn and practice ways to editing sentences for when they are doing independent writing.
My goal for my ELL students is to become better writers.
Writing is difficult for English Language Learners to develop. It's hard for them to write what they speak and also make sure grammar and punctuation is correct as well. We can use the donations to the practice skills before they can create writing independently. Writing needs to have a purpose and with the right resources we can be successful writers.
