99% of my students are Lakota (Native American). Most of the students do not ever leave the reservation and have limited resources and experiences. This does not discourage them to try new things. They are always eager to learn new things and take pride in their work and accomplishments. They always great me with a smile and a hug in the morning.
We learn about our culture's traditions and values each week and I love seeing their pride and curiosity.
They understand and show generosity, fortitude, wisdom, and kinship every day.
My Project
The first thing you notice when you walk into a room is its organization and neatness. Having a classroom that is well organized with corresponding colors, patterns, and furniture increases the students learning and decreases distraction and chaos.
Having a clutter-free, beautifully organized classroom eliminates wasted valuable time, helps with faster transitioning, and student's focus increases.
We live on a reservation with a high poverty rate. Most families are displaced and the children share rooms with 5 or more siblings. I want to create an environment that is well organized, warm, attractive, caring, and child-centered. The students will spend a lot of time with me in the classroom and I want them to be able to feel relaxed and safe without clutter and disorganization which in turn causes anxiety.
