Curling up with a good book is one of my students favorite things to do! They love to flip through the pages of their favorite picture books or peer into the chapter book collection that I read aloud to them. Students love going to the classroom library and sharing a book with a friend.
My school is in an urban area in Maryland.
Over 93% of our student population receives free or reduced lunch. A majority (72%) of our students are English language learners. Our students come from diverse backgrounds of many different countries and cultures. They are hard working and inquisitive about the world around them. I want to make the classroom a place that is exciting and inviting to inspire them to learn and excel want students to understand that they CAN do well by creating a classroom that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for them
These baskets will be used to organize the classroom library and make it accessible to little learners. Kids are more engaged and more likely to read when they have material that they are interested in. These library baskets will help my students to quickly locate a book because they will be separated into kid friendly categories and labeled for students.
I want my students to become fluent readers.
This will require them to spend a lot of time reading quality literature that they have an interest in. This organization tool will help cut down on the time spent looking for books and increase their time enjoying and nurturing a love for reading! Students will also gain independence as they are able to put books away independently with this organization system.
