I teach a group of first-grade students who live in the heart of the Appalachian mountains of Eastern Kentucky. There is an equal mix of girls and boys. They are fun-loving, bright, energetic, and extremely eager learners. They each absorb information like a sponge, and love learning.
They are at a very critical time in their life, the beginning stage of reading and writing.
Their focus should be on learning, rather than what they don't have or what they need to be successful in school.
My Project
I am requesting Kleenex, Germ-X, Clorox wipes, and other germ eliminating materials to ensure our environment and selves are as germ free as can be. These items will be used all throughout the school year to clean our environment. At the beginning of each year, I teach a unit specific to maintaining a clean environment. Students will use the baggies to grow fungus so they are able to see what germs do to our environment. The Germ-X, Clorox wipes, and cleaning erasers will be used to ensure they are provided the necessary resources to allow for an environmentally clean classroom.
