My Students
Imagine the excitement a child feels when she learns to write her own name for the first time!
I teach a wonderful group of kindergartners in a high needs area in the South Bronx.
My students this year are eager to learn, but unfortunately many have had no prior academic experience. They did not have the opportunity to attend pre-school and have not developed the fine motor skills necessary to hold a pencil well enough to write their own name.
My Project
My dream is to, not only get them to write their name independently, but have them writing sentences by the end of the school year. My dream is to have thick pencils and manuscript notebooks with wide ruled lines to help them develop the manual dexterity to begin writing. Thick pencils are easier for little hands to grip and the wide ruled notebooks will facilitate learning how to print.
I try to provide the very best instruction for my students, because I believe they deserve the very best.
Having the appropriate materials would assist them in preparing for academic success!
