My Students

My students are bright and thoughtful learners. Their minds and bodies are moving at a million miles per hour. Each one of them has countless potential and I love to celebrate their uniqueness. They are a new generation of learners that are energetic, inquisitive, and insightful.

Heartbreakingly, many of my students have struggled emotionally and socially due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Increased anxiety and signs of depression are prevalent. These students are in a stressed state of fight or flight and as a result struggle to learn, leading to academic struggles that are only compounded by absences and illness. Often they become even more overwhelmed and want to quit.

I strive to foster a classroom that is a safe, quiet, reliable place for them to learn, a place that they can find what is great about themselves, what they are capable of, and how to sort through the chaos around them.

My Project

Help me bring the information from the pages of their Science books to Real Life. Students want to interact with the world around them, not just read about it. They will now not only read about plant structures and how they function to help them survive and reproduce, but will grow, touch, and participate in their survival.

These materials will provide opportunity for my students to get back in touch with nature and learn while they are doing it!

To paraphrase a famous quote..to nurture a garden is to feed the soul. Help me feed the souls of my students with growing plants, social and emotional picture books they can relate to, and allow them to move while learning!
