Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I serve are full of life, despite experiencing so many hardships. Students ages 4-12 have witnessed community and domestic violence, loss of a loved one, and incarceration of a parent or sibling. Students at our school are diverse in socioeconomic status, race and ethnicity, languages spoken and life experiences. Their needs are also diverse. The one basic need we can fulfill is helping them feel confident in clean, new uniforms at the start of the academic year.
My Project
Wearing clean, new clothes is a luxury for my students. The shirts I have chosen for my students would mean walking into their class with a new confidence. Feeling comfortable and confident can mean a world of difference for a student in a learning environment.
The shirts I have chosen will be distributed to youth in need of a uniform shirt to start the school year off.
Many of the families I serve will request assistance with uniforms because of monetary struggles and challenging life circumstances. As the year begins, students also come to school in dirty clothing or worn clothing. This typically impedes their learning and acclimation to their new classroom or school.
