My Students
I teach at a Title I school where 94% of my students are experiencing economic hardship. Many of the students at my school live in mobile homes and, for some, the only meals they have are the ones provided by our school.
My students come from many diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Many of my students or their families have immigrated here from Central and South America, some have never attended school when they walk through my door. Together we bring different experiences and cultures to our community. Regardless of their socio-economic status, my students teach me and each other the meaning of love, respect, creativity, caring, and understanding every day.
My Project
Making sure students have the supplies they need to be successful in school has always been a goal of mine. I want to start getting materials around for my students will start third grade next year. It's so reassuring going on summer break knowing that when we come back to school in August we'll have all of the materials we'll need.
In our classroom, we organize our subjects by color.
Blue folders and spiral notebooks are for social studies, green is for science, yellow for writing, red for reading, and purple for math. By using the color system students can keep their work neat and organized. They know that at math time they need to take out their purple materials and so forth for the other subjects.
Pencil boxes help us keep all of our materials organized and in one place and the clear, plastic folders help us keep our homework materials together.
Third graders seem to go through pencils more than any other grade I've taught. We also need good quality, wooden pencils so they last and a pencil sharpener to keep them sharpened.
