My classroom is filled with diversity. My students come from many different socioeconomic backgrounds, including English Language Learners, low-income homes, and few learning experiences outside of their neighborhood.
I have a rambunctious group of 5th graders who are eager to learn.
They love to play games, solve puzzles, and find easier and faster ways to tackle the heavy math. They soak in every ounce of new information they learn, and are constantly asking honest, deep questions. I love how inquisitive they are! Above all, my students believe in themselves and have big dreams for their own futures.
My Project
Just recently, my grade level decided to go from a departmentalized to homeroom structure, so now for the first time in 7 years I have to teach reading in my own classroom. I am super excited to return to teaching this subject! However, since I started to specialize in just math, I decided to give away my classroom library to a new teacher. All the books I still have for the students to read in my classroom library are math-related.
Now that I will be teaching reading, it is so important for my students to have a classroom library of their own.
This new classroom library will help them choose books at their individual reading levels and interests. It is a fact that when students are given the chance to choose a book to read, they become stronger, independent readers. With your help, I will be able to begin a new classroom library with updated, relevant stories that my students will cherish for years to come.
