My students come from some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city of Chicago. They travel long distances and on multiple buses to get to school. Many of my students are raised in single-parent households and receive free lunches based on their socioeconomic status.
The classroom is one place my students feel safe.
In the classroom, they are free to express themselves, grow and learn. A clean, warm, inviting classroom gives my students a place to belong, feel accepted, and loved.
We need paint, paint brushes, tape, and rolling kits to help paint the classroom. These new materials will help make the classroom warm and inviting. A fresh coat of paint on the walls will make an old classroom look new. There is no better way to start the school year than with a fresh new look! Currently there are holes on the walls, and spots with no paint at all.
Painting the classroom will be a team bonding experience, as the girls on my basketball team will work with me to paint the room.
I want to create a warm, safe environment for my students, but also an inviting place for my student athletes to have study hall in after school.
