We are looking for an iPad, protective case, and screen protector to enhance our learning during our ELA and math centers.
I work in a 12:1:3 self-contained special education classroom that has students in grades K-3 with varying disabilities that include Autism, visual impairments, cognitive delays, and emotional issues.
Most of my students are non-verbal or have severe delays in their language. Their abilities range from severely to slightly delayed. We strive to teach the students to become independent, to have functional skills around daily routines and structure, and academics. My students face communication and social challenges every day as they struggle to relate to their peers and adults in their environment.
My Project
The iPad's versatility and portability would allow our students the opportunity to access the curriculum throughout their day in a variety of settings. It can be easily transported throughout the school and utilized both in the self-contained setting as well as inclusive classrooms. The touch screen is sensitive enough to respond to students who have limited mobility allowing access to reading a book without having to manage the physical item itself. The screen can also be adapted to support students with visual impairments, enlarging images and adding motion and sounds to activities presented.
By having these resources it will ensure that my students will still have the ability to access all types of topics within math, writing, reading, and science.
It will give them a different presentation of materials that we discuss during a lesson and keep our iPad safe and sound.
