A Flying Carpet to Success

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are my second set of kids! My students are three year-olds that come from an area of very high economic need in Irvington. They are curious, thoughtful and eager learners. This is the period of time when they are learning to love school: a love that will hopefully follow them for years to come. The entire school has a new found energy for literacy with our new Lending Library. Their passion to keep learning despite the odds inspires me.

My Project

The students in my class need a space to sit that is all their own. The large blocked carpet will allow the students to each have a space where they can shift and wiggle and have their sensory needs met so that they are able to learn and understand.

The seats will help those with varying needs to have additional support and have their own individual seating needs more effectively met!

The varied seating addresses the unique personalities of all of my little learners and allows them to choose the seat that will help them to be the best learners that they can be!
