In my classroom, we transport the student experience to a new level through the utilization of technology and diverse materials. The 8th grade students are able to engage deeply in the learning process on a daily basis through experiences, research, and collaboration.
They are digital citizens, voracious readers, and competent consumers of new media.
Their strengths lie in their ability to dissect a text and make connections on a personal and global level, as well as discern the true meaning or purpose of a text. They are hard-working, energetic, and tenacious kiddos who are hungry for a challenge!
My Project
The journey to Flexible Seating has begun in 8th grade! With the addition of our new standing table, we find ourselves in need of stools. The standing table is phenomenal for kiddos who need time and space to move while they process, as well as providing students with a sense of independence while they work . This is a valuable tool in the classroom, and helps kiddos who need a change of scenery.
We need stools for our standing table for an easy transition between direct instruction and collaborative work time.
During direct instruction, students will use the stools to sit and face the SMART board to receive direct instruction from the teacher. When the class moves to work time, applying what they have been taught, they will have the freedom to sit on, stand beside, or balance with their stool. The goal of Flexible Seating is stated in the term: to provide flexible seating options to fulfill the unique needs and desires of each individual student. Students that need a chance to be independent and move will have the opportunity to process standing up. Students who prefer to sit with more legroom will be able to sit without the constraints of traditional classroom seating. All students will have the ability to enjoy the new table, and experience the fresh perspective. Help me put some pep in my kids' step!
