I have a classroom of 24-28 learners who are very diverse. Their differences allow us to see that our classroom is not a one size fits all. My students are encouraged to work collaboratively and creatively in an environment that supports their needs.
Seeing my students grow in their love of learning is amazing!
Many of my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. I strive to make school a safe place where a love of learning is fostered and differences are celebrated!
My Project
Students come in all shapes and sizes, so should their learning. Typical desks and chairs may not be the best fit for all students. As adults, we know how we work best. Some of us listen to music, some need complete silence, and some of us do our best work sitting on our sofa in a nest of pillows. I want my students to have that same opportunity. In my classroom students are given flexible seating options to help increase their focus and engagement in their learning. My students are encouraged to find the seat that fits them best and find solutions for when they need to change their choice. Providing flexible seating gives them an opportunity to feel a part of their learning environment and creates a community of learners. Flexible seating allows my students to practice lifelong skills, such as decision making and collaboration among peers. These seating options will help them truly become movers and shakers in the future. My students love being able to choose where they sit. Having a non-traditional set-up makes my classroom feel like a home away from home. It is a community of learners where students are encouraged to support one another and take risks. Having additional options for flexible seating will provide even more opportunities for my students to be successful learners.
