Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a Title I school in an urban area of Charlotte, North Carolina. Despite difficult circumstances that they face each day outside of school, they come to my class eager to learn. My students are an inspirational and hardworking group of students and I want to be able to provide them a positive classroom environment with all the supplies they need to be successful. Part of their learning involves an inviting classroom community and I feel that having these additional resources will engage them in their learning.

My Project

Having flexible seating chairs will give my students movement around the classroom. They spend most of the day in desks and hard chairs. This will allow them to collaborate in small groups or have a more comfortable place to complete their reading activities.

I believe students learn better when they can move around and get out of their desks.

The chairs will allow this! The white boards will offer a fun way for my students to practice their writing skills. In an ELL classroom, our students are constantly writing. The boards will allow them to practice in a different way. The board will also be used for fun classroom activities and games.
