My students need the FIRSTs in different series in order to participate in literature circles that will enrich their reading curriculum, encourage them to read the rest of the series, and foster a community of collaboration.
My students, like most middle school students, often need that great big push when it comes to reading. While many do not love reading, they are curious about other worlds, creative beyond words, and ready to collaborate on projects that will require them to think outside of the box. We are a Title 1 school, with 57% of our students considered as economically disadvantaged. I do not want the LACK OF to ever define my kids. I want to be able to provide MORE, and we need your help to make that happen.
My Project
We need MORE books! The books we are asking for will be used in conjunction with books in our library to set up literature circles. Each of these books were chosen because they are the FIRST in a series, have high ratings, are of varied reading level, and require the student to think about situations the characters are in.
My goal is to challenge my students each and every day.
With these books, my classes will be able to participate in true literature circles. This is a challenge for my students because they have to collaborate in ways that are unfamiliar. We will be working together to increase reading skills from fluency to comprehension. Through this, students will work on higher order thinking skills by analyzing their text, inferring about situations, and creating projects, from new endings and character maps to book trailers and podcasts.
