A Field Trip a Day with Virtual Reality

My students need Google Expedition kits to allow them to go on virtual field trips and experience the world every day of the week.

My Students

My students are my family away from my family. I am lucky enough to spend my day with 21 kind, respectful and helpful 8 and 9 year old kids. We sing and we dance and most importantly we learn.

My students have a strong desire to want to learn more constantly.

They ask questions and recommend units of study that interest them. I work hard in order to live up to their expectations and provide them with all of the answers, but sometimes I fall short. Sometimes you have to be able to travel somewhere to fully understand it. Luckily, technology has made that almost possible without ever leaving a classroom.

My Project

Virtual reality devices will provide an opportunity for students to fill in background knowledge gaps. As a teacher, I try very hard to vividly describe and show illustrations of all of the different places that we discuss and read about. It is impossible to truly get a feeling unless you are actually there. The Google Experience Kit can help to close this gap by providing as close of an experience as you can get to the real thing.

I plan lessons that incorporate varied themes and cultures.

I would arrange for the students to view the area we are discussing with the kits as an introduction to certain units. As an example, we study the desert in third grade. Students would view a cold desert and a hot desert prior to beginning the unit.
