This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a inner-city urban elementary school in Wisconsin. Over 90% of the students receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. The students don't always get the support they need from home. As a result, our students need to take a more active part in their education. They need to see that they are in control of their education and their future.
Engaging each student in their own learning must always be the goal.
My students need to feel their worth and understand that they are capable of greatness. Once students know they are worthy, they become empowered to take responsibility for their learning. It is my job to help them see their value, and set them on their path.
My Project
We have all been away from our classroom due to the current pandemic.
When I look forward to fall, I am thinking of the things which my students grew to enjoy WITHIN THE CLASSROOM.
Seems trivial, but new anchor charts are something they began looking forward to each week. It signified new challenges and experiences. The students knew those charts would be around for the duration of the unit- to guide and serve as a reminder!
The chart paper and markers help me make the charts special and unique for our classroom!
