A Family Game Bag Update

Help me give my students hard cover atlases, an illuminated globe, magnetic blocks, and canvas totes so that they can take learning home to share with their families.

My Project

My classroom is an active, inviting and exciting place. From the minute the morning bells ring until their backpacks are stuffed, my students engage in the magic of learning! I also want them to carry this magic of learning home with them!

The resources I am requesting will be used to create Family Game Bags.

Each bag contains one family activity like Atlases, a Floor Puzzle, an Illuminated Globe and Magnetic Tiles. These games are ones that students enjoy in our classroom. Every month they will take one Game Bag home to share with their families for a week or longer. Families will be asked to complete a journal entry before, during or after their turn with the Game Bags. Not only will Game Time be fun but it will provide students with a real reason to write. For example, the set of Magnetic Tiles provides an opportunity to work with design, stability, construction, planning, turn taking and more. After playing families can draw a diagram of their tower in the journal or include a photo, reflection, or game tips. A real reason to write is powerful!

I carefully selected materials that were familiar and require minimal set up. This project is actually a continuation of a previous Donors Choose project that I have implemented in my classroom several years ago. It is so successful that I am now hoping to expand and replenish our collection of games. I know that this project will continue to create great excitement in our room and houses!
