Help me give my students additional support through the training I provide for parents and other stakeholders. As the literacy coach, I conduct parent seminars that show parents ways to effectively support their children's literacy development at home.

My students are from an inner-city neighborhood in Birmingham, AL. All of the students receive free lunch. Our Title I, public school endeavors to provide as many experiences as possible for our students; however, we fall a bit short and are restricted in the types of experiences we can provide for them due to limited school and family resources.
My 2018-2019 K-3 students consist of Hispanic students and African American students who struggle with literacy skills.
While students should leave kindergarten with the ability to read, they are not as successful due to language deficiencies. This issue is exasperated by the limited number of resources available in the home for students to use to practice reading skills taught in school. Despite the lack of resources, my students have a genuine desire to extend their learning. Therefore, the classroom teachers and I provide them with as many resources as possible to fuel their fire.
As the literacy coach, I am privileged to share in parent seminars in which I model for parent/family ways they support students literacy development at home. Engaging parents with practical literacy strategies to use at homes benefits the whole family. As children and their younger siblings proceed through the primary grades, sharing ways parents can help builds a bond between the school and the community.
The Home/School alliance is crucial to increasing student achievement.
So, these materials will ensure the necessary materials are present when sharing literacy strategies with parents/families. During the presentations, I create Powerpoint Presentations and show videos that allow parents to see what literacy instruction looks like and how they can emulate such instruction in the family. Therefore, the projector and presentation remove will ensure that I can share helpful information with them.
Other materials such as the printer and accompanying ink will ensure that I can provide the necessary handouts for parents to use at home.
