Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my yearbook course and advanced broadcast journalism course are excited to tell their stories and the campus communities stories with the world. We come to school as part of a magnet class and are excited to be able to learn about journalism and what is occurring in the world.
My students are the next journalists of the news world.
They are totally captivated by everything journalism related and it is awesome to see them in action, getting the next story on campus. The students in my broadcast journalism class are part of a block class that meets for two hours during the school day to produce Jaguar News for the entire school, which is a weekly news show. I also teach yearbook which is an hour course that meets for an hour daily to cover campus events.
The students all come from different backgrounds with different levels of socioeconomic statuses and family statuses. When they are in the classroom they leave that all behind and focus on achieving their goals with the broadcast. It may range from a student producing, to editing, to anchoring.
My Project
The yearbook staff would like to use the drone to capture footage from sporting events that are outside and school wide events that occur in our quad which is our open dining space on campus. The broadcast journalism students would like to use the drone to get more establishing shots for stories and to help capture things that we might not normally be able to capture.
The students will be experiencing something on the cutting edge of technology when it comes to journalism.
It will allow them to be on the fore front not behind the times when it comes to capturing a story.
