Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have playful and inquisitive minds in grades 4-6. They have special needs varying from learning difficulties, autism, emotional and behavioral difficulties, attention deficit disorder and other-health impairment. Of course they are passionate about what they do.
My students love to learn and be challenged.
Moreover, my students enjoy reading, solving real-life math problems and hands-on activities. According to Brene Brown, "We are born makers! We move what we're learning from our heads through our hearts to our hands!"
My Project
My classroom employs a dollar system throughout the day for good behavior and as part of the positive reinforcement we practiced. Students earn a dollar for participation and making good choices throughout the day such as listening and following directions, keeping hands and feet to oneself and raising hands and wait to be called on. Students also are assigned classroom jobs and get paid each week.
Students get to spend their hard-earned money on our class store every Fridays.
The students are always excited to see cool items on the store such as things they can actually use and to discover things around them. The requested projects such as rock paints, gel pens, balls, science projects such as slime making and volcanic experiment will be added as items in our classroom store. These items would definitely provide students added motivation and encouragement as they venture throughout the day.
