My Project

My students, as with all students, have been through an incredible amount of trauma. They have faced uncertainty every single day in a place that is supposed to be a reliable, stable, safe environment.

My goal this year has been to create a therapeutic classroom that makes students feel, above all else, they are safe, loved, cared for, and can be free learn, have fun, and just be 2nd grade kids!

By adding to my classroom library books that reflect the diversity of my students, they are able to feel that who they are is represented in our room. I have also found that using books to teach social and emotional well-being skills has been one of the best ways to engage them and ensure they take these lessons to heart.

The social and emotional resources this project will allow me to add to our class library will have a huge impact on how my students deal with emotions, see themselves as worthy and valuable, and how they are able to communicate with and value others. I am teaching my students to show kindness and aloha every single day. I believe these books will "fill their buckets" and teach them to continue spreading their amazing gifts and love with the rest of the world.
