Help me give my students a vast variety of books that are culturally responsive. My students need a diverse library that are both mirrors and windows to the world around them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Resilient, hardworking, kind, and grit are just a handful of words that I can use to describe my students. I am incredibly lucky to work alongside these spectacular students each and every day. I am their teacher, but they also teach me just what it means to have grit. Being at a school where 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged, our students show us every day what it truly looks like to be resilient.
Despite the disadvantages some of these students may have, they truly show us what it means to beat the odds.
Being the leaders of our school, I encourage my students to lead by example and leave a lasting legacy everywhere they go. They do this through acts of kindness in the school and community, reading buddies with lower grade levels, and striving to be a shining example for all of those in their path.
My Project
A classroom library should be a place where students can explore their world and develop a love of literature. My students come from many different walks of life. Their unique backgrounds should be mirrored in their classroom library.
I have carefully curated a list of books to mirror the diversity in my classroom as well as to educate students of their peers' unique backgrounds.
Books are one of the most influential tools that we can offer a child. A culturally responsive library will serve as mirrors and windows to each and every one of my students. I strive to create an environment that is inclusive of everyone. 80% of the students I teach are economically disadvantaged. Some of them may not get the opportunity to read culturally responsive books beyond my four walls. Adding these books to my classroom library will help create life long readers. Above all, these books will nurture and cultivate an environment of acceptance, something that is so necessary in our world.
