Help me give my students multi-ethnic puppets to play and read with in the classroom and a teacher puppet to help with student engagement and learning!
I teach first grade in a small rural community in Ca. in Butte County. I have a diverse group of students many of whom face challenges including, poverty, home life trauma, and often very little academic support at home. Many of the families had to evacuate for the Camp Fire and the year before when the Oroville Dam spilled over.
These amazing kiddos have been through a lot in the past couple years.
Despite the hardships they experience, they have resilience and the eagerness to come to school every day to try their best, to do their best, and to learn! And they deserve to have a classroom with materials, supplies, and tools to facilitate their learning in a safe, joyful, and engaging setting.
My students are fun, creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, and engaging projects. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
My Project
These puppets will be a great learning tool in the classroom. My students will able to read with them, act out plays with them, be creative and silly with them, act out problem solving skills and character education skills with them, and much more I'm sure!
I want my diverse group of students to see more representation of their ethnicities in the classroom.
We honor, value, andrespect all cultures and ethnic backgrounds in my class. I hope my students will feel the love and feel valued and respected when they see the asian and hispanic puppets for them to use.
I am also requesting a puppet as a teaching tool. Using a puppet to help teach skills can be such a powerful teaching tool, as it is so much fun for everyone involved! A puppet can have a magical way of captivating the attention of a student who may not always be focused and on task!
These puppets will enrich and enhance my multicultural and multi-ethnic class!
