A Dictionary in Every Hand! Help Us Find New Words ...

My students need a class set of dictionaries, thesauri and Motivational Pencils. They also need classroom supplies to support their word-learning mania.

My Students

How better to get my students excited about vocabulary and give an academic focus to a dress-up costume event than to hold a Vocabulary Parade? My students are becoming passionate word-lovers, and we are planning on celebrating our communal love of words with a fabulous celebration.

I teach 27 fabulous third graders at an urban Title-1 school.

My students are eager to expand their vocabularies so they can better understand the books they read. I read the wonderful picture book Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster to my students. In the book, the characters participate in a vocabulary parade where the students dress up as their favorite vocabulary words. Well, my creative students have asked if we can have a vocabulary parade too!

My Project

In order to get ready for our vocabulary parade, (and to support my students' word learning throughout the year,) we need a class set of dictionaries and thesauri. These important references will be used by the students throughout the year! Yes, my students can look up definitions and synonyms online, but I think it's still valuable for them to learn to use a dictionary. (Plus, they can keep the thesauri at their seats, so they always have just the right word at hand while writing.)

Help bring dictionaries and other literacy materials into my classroom so guide words can guide my students to vocabulary stardom.

Your generous support will really make a difference!
