My students persevere, do their best, and take pride in their education. Most come from low income, first generation proud immigrant families. They are dedicated to their education because they know and appreciate the daily sacrifices their parents make for them. To them, school is exciting, something to celebrate, and they are grateful to come every day. At our Title I school, most of my students receive and deserve some financial assistance to help their families make ends meet. Half of my students have free or reduced priced meals and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at the school 5 days a week. They each deserve to have a desk to hold their important class materials and supplies.
Each of my students need their own desks. Currently we are using kindergarten tables that have no space to put my first graders’ books and supplies. A desk for each student gives them their own space to spread out and do their best work. A new desk would give them much needed space to keep their text, practice and journal books in one safe place. A desk for each student gives them the important responsibility to keep their own work space, materials and supplies handy and organized. A desk for each students gives them space to call their own while still sharing and collaborating with their peers.
