Hi, I am a fourth grade teacher at an Inglewood elementary school. Approximately 90% of my students receive free lunch. Every day, I am thinking of ways to improve my classroom for my students. We are in need of so many things, but I wanted to start with reading. My students and I would be thrilled if we had a comfortable place to read. We would love for someone to donate some comfy, cozy reading bugs to our reading center. We have a variety of books to choose from. Most of our books are chapter books now; so, they require us to stay forced longer. This is a challenge for my fourth graders. I think if they had a comfortable place to read (rather than a hard, rigid chair), they would have a little more force to comprehend a chapter book. As adults, we all love to cuddle up in our favorite chair to read a novel. So, imagine the tranquil feeling that could occur in a classroom, if a child had a soft place to relax and enjoy their book. I hope someone can visualize this environment and understand how it can be a delightful place to read for a fourth grader who is transitioning from picture-books to chapter-books. I have 28 students who will want that opportunity to relax with a book. I was hoping someone would be kind enough to donate four reading pillows to our classroom. I will have a student of the week, and that student may invite two friends to relax with him or her. That way we all will get an opportunity to relax and read "In Pure Delight."
