For the first time in many years, our middle school will be departmentalized. As a person with a background science and the official science teacher, I want to give my students the most immersive, hands-on experience I can. With two weather meters and a microscope with and oil immersion lens, my students will be able to explore things they can feel but cannot see and begin to understand it.
As students with disabilities, the students at my school struggle with learning, motivation and engagement and by providing them as many opportunities to interact with science, they will be excited about learning.
Having weather meters and microscope will benefit my students with learning difficulties by allowing them to receive instruction that it multimodal, which is key to helping them understand concepts. With two weather meters, students can be in groups and each of them can actually participate in a weather and atmosphere unit lab, rather than just witness a demonstration.
So many of these students wish to do well in school and want to understand what is being taught, but without the proper tools they struggle, causing them to disengage. With these materials, my students will be more eager to learn and will have the opportunity to visualize abstract concepts. This will make instruction more meaningful for every middle school student here.
