I am an ELA teacher of 60 6th grade students in the South Bronx. I am in desperate need of books, bookshelves, magazines, a carpet, bean bags, and any reference books. I have three classes that I see on a daily basis. Unfortunately, I have students on reading levels from 1st grade to 6th grade in one class. I don't have the supplies that I need to encourage them to read independently. In order for the children to read in a quiet place, they chose to sit on the dirty floor. The students went as far as having a child bring in a small carpet from home! However, the carpet was very dirty and smelled. This showed me how badly the students want a safe, clean place to read. Please Help!!!
