Help me give my students a cozy area where they can gather to have morning meeting time, engage in a classroom activity, or dream big by sharing their visions...without having to stay planted behind their desks all day!
3rd Grade! My students came in this year so excited and eager to please. This is my 1st year teaching in "my own" classroom and I told my class that I was beginning the year with a fresh start just like they were. I told them that I will be learning right along side of them and that we all have to be patient with each other as we all learn the rules and routines. So far they have been very empathetic!
My Project
I walked into a very bare classroom and wanted to make the room feel cozy and welcoming. Being my first year teaching, I did not have many materials. I gladly took hand me downs from coworkers and gathered up some of my own personal belongings from home. I was able to make the space a little more "kid" friendly, but the one item that I really would like to invest in is a carpet to gather for morning meetings and other intimate classroom discussions. It has only been a few days, but I feel like my students have been stuck behind their desks too much already. Every morning they have dragged their chairs across the room so that we could go over our daily routines and activities.
I can manage purchasing items to help hold school materials or decorate the room, but this purchase at the moment is too extravagant for my personal budget.
I would love for my kiddos to walk into the classroom one morning and be excited to see a nice area for them to learn. One of our classroom expectations is "Dream Big" and have a vision and hope for our school year. Some of them were dreaming big for a classroom pet such as a dog,... but I think a carpet is much more reasonable!
