Our school is an ethnically diverse elementary school in the Central Valley of California. One hundred percent of our 850 students enrolled in the school receive free breakfast and lunches. Over 80% of our students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged families.
My students are eager to learn, and I am always looking for creative ways to keep them motivated and engaged in learning.
Our students need guidance and support to thrive in their educational journey as well as fun and exciting ways to learn.
My students love when we have time for accelerated reading. IT is a 20-25 minutes window where they can get lost in their book. During this time, they can choose a flexible seat and find room somewhere in the room and dive into their books. I have 25 students and only enough flexible seats for half the class. I'm requesting additional flexible seating. I currently have an old rug that is in the space for reading and it is too big for the space. Kids continuously are tripping over it and it has become a hazard. I would like a smaller rug to make the space more inviting.
