Help me give my students a warm, comfortable and organized place to listen to stories with a sequential seating literacy carpet.
This project expired on May 10, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are readers. The youngest ones are learning that books hold words and pictures and together they make a story. The oldest ones have strong opinions about which books they enjoy. They look for familiar authors and illustrators. They look for bright covers and recommendations from friends. They like to borrow the same book as their friend and read them at the same time. They love graphic novels. They love Dr. Seuss. They love Harry Potter and Eric Carle and Arthur and Magic School Bus.
My students are building their love of reading.
They are working to be better listeners, so they can listen to stories. They are working on using new technology, so they can discover and share more stories. They are learning so many ways to enjoy books and stories, and my hope is that our school library becomes a place where they feel safe to learn and explore their love of reading.
As a teacher librarian I am often reading to my students (in all grades!). Though we have a space for sitting on the floor and listening to stories, we do not have a comfortable rug for them to sit on. This rug will do a couple of things.
First, it will create a more comfortable and inviting space for listening to stories.
Second, it will offer a more comfortable and inviting space for reading on their own.
Third, it will help with student behavior, as they will be given a spot to sit on. This will help with classroom management and give us more time to listen to more great books!
Fourth, it will reinforce literacy with images and letters!
