This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are unbelievably creative and have the power to do so much with so little. They make beautiful art with the simplest of materials, but when given just a little extra something special they take their creativity to a whole new level. My students are full of energy and imagination. They do not have access to many art materials at home, so I try to introduce them to as many interesting materials as I can. I want to do all I can to make every art experience they have unique and inspiring. I try to create a space that makes them feel safe and inspired,

My Project

I have been in my art room for five years and they have been amazing. In that time, I have learned a lot about what my room needs to provide students with the best learning opportunities. One major discovery we made is that having a gathering space on the floor provides us with the perfect space to share artwork and discuss new ideas. My carpets in the past have all been hand-me-downs, and they have served the art room well, but we are ready for something new! We need a new carpet to help our room feel fresh and clean as well as to create a comfortable space for our creativity to thrive.
