Reading is my favorite past time. My dream is to create this same passion for my students. Eighth grade is a time to build this foundation. I want my students to have exciting and relevant books to be able to read along with our topics.
My students are AMAZING.
Very active and social eighth graders. They love to talk and read but need books to keep them interested. Once they get into a book, they will talk about it with each other and with me. It brightens my whole day when they come in excited about a book we discussed and they read on more. And when they ask to check it out to read throughout the day and at home....priceless.
My Project
Courage is an amazing thing. Truly amazing....but it is HARD for an eighth grader to relate to. The book "The Running Dream" is an unbelievably inspirational book about a teenage girl about their age who loses a leg in a car accident. It shows her courage and growth with her rehabilitation of her leg and with the acceptance of others. I couldn't have picked a better book for my students to read in order to connect to our topic. They will be able to see the courage someone their age can have. It will help them understand that no matter how small, courageous is something we can all be.
I feel that this book is a need for my class.
Our students have an opportunity to read a book that relates to their age and teaches them a true life lesson. Learning to be courageous will help my students now and in the future. They will be able to used this story and relate it for the rest of their life.
