Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I work within a school where most of the kids have not seen the outside of their community. When I teach a social studies unit on China it is not real to them. My students which are mostly African-American and Latino really don't understand that life does and can get better. I try my best to show these students mostly living in poverty that there is hope and it is not always what it looks like. But let's face it they are only 8 and 9 years old and they are more of a believer when they can see something in front of their face. Most of my students live in single parent homes where there is not enough money to buy a computer and the only real time they get is 1 period a week. That 1 period is not enough especially when all they do is play Clifford games the whole time. I want my students to experience what the joy and knowledge of the Internet. There are some lessons I have seen on the web that would be so much better if I had a computer to show them on. I would appreciate 2 computers for my class, but if all I can get is one that would be much better than none. All I want is to bring the world to my classroom. It would open the eyes of my students to appreciate the things that they don't see but know exist.
