I teach fourth and fifth grade special education at an underprivileged, inner-city public school in Brooklyn New York. All my students receive free lunch and come form poor, broken, and often abusive families. I enjoy trying new and innovative ways of reaching out to my students. I recently read about a new computerized pen that helps children with their academic subjects. The Fly Pentop computer does so many wonderful things to improve students learning. The pen teaches math skills such as, concepts and processes in the areas of numbers and operation (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) it also helps with algebra, geometry, measurements, data analysis, and probability and math reasoning. The pen also teaches reading and language skills. Which consist of speech, listening, reading, and writing (including spelling and vocabulary). The last thing it teaches is all branches of science, earth, life, and physical. It teaches observation, identification, experimentation, and investigation used to determine general laws about the physical world. Children also learn about plants, animals and their organization, life processes and relationships to each other and their environment. These children have so little and there are so few opportunities to introduce them to new things that students in better-funded schools take for granted. I would love to have the chance to bring advanced technology into my classroom in a new and exciting way that will help my student achieve. Any donation will be more than appreciated, thank you.
