Our school's motto is SOAR. That stands for Safe, On Time, Always Respectful and Ready to Learn. Our students strive toward these qualities every day. We work very hard to keep them motivated and excited about school and learning.
My class is made up of a diverse group of students with a wide range of needs.
They represent many cultures, backgrounds, economic levels and abilities. I have many students with IEPs, (Individual Education Plans), including quite a few autistic students and those with AD/HD and other learning disabilities.
In this age of Common Core and Enhanced State Standards, our students are challenged with advanced curriculum every day. They are learning to look deeper into what they are learning. It's not enough to know how to do it. They need to be able to explain why it works.
“Sit still and pay attention” are words that students should not be hearing in a modern classroom. We now know that children learn best when they are moving and talking.
These special chairs will help my AD/HD and Autistic students stay focused while sitting.
Research has shown that stimulating these students’ brains with movement helps them pay attention.
These chairs will set up the students for success, allowing them to move around while learning, yet not disturbing those around them. This, in turn, will give those students the extra burst of confidence they need to help set them up for success!
