My students are 4th graders in New Jersey. The new year is will be starting in less than 2 weeks. This time of year my classroom is filled with anticipation of what learning adventures will happen this year!
My students learn to be independent by setting achievable goals each season.
As the instructional leader, I plan multiple activities for each learning concept. My fourth graders have the opportunity to choose what activities they will use to learn and where they will learn best in our classroom. They work independently as well as in small groups and as a whole class.
I want our classroom to be comfortable and a place where they are learning and creating. Flexible seating supports this by allowing them to chose where they will be most productive.
Our day begins with a morning meeting, once students know what needs to be accomplished for the day they are encouraged to find their place to work.
It takes a while but students find the place where they work best and also learn to share the seating resources.
The soft rockers that I am requesting in this project will become part of an adaptable learning space in my classroom. In this area, students can work independently or collaborate with peers. The chairs invite them to become comfortable and independently read.
