This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all individuals; no two are alike. Among them, there are many differences. Some are louder, some quieter. Some have a tendency to wander way outside of the box while others linger closer to it. They know no race, level of intelligence, or economic status.
Despite their differences, they are all aware that they have one thing in common: they all belong to an amazing classroom community that thrives each minute of each day.
Together, as a class, they break down barriers to become better people and students.
My Project
Every morning and every afternoon is the same in my classroom. We gather on the floor in a circle to greet one another and in the afternoon we gather to say goodbye. A couple of days ago, my students and I received word that we would be getting a new classroom floor. Our carpet is very old, so this is great news. The only problem is, our carpet is being replaced cold, hard, tile!
This rug will help create a more comfortable environment for my students.
They will be able to meet, work, listen, and learn anywhere within an 8 foot by 10-foot area on the floor. I always encourage my students to be flexible in the classroom, so this rug will allow them to continue to do so.
