My Project

My students are amazing young scholars who are learning to breathe, self regulate, and solve problems. The Safe Place is a center where children can go to change their inner state from upset to composed in order to optimize learning. Students go to the safe place when they are feeling upset or stressed. When students are disregulated, they are not in a mental space to solve problems and need the opportunity to reset and be ready to move on. They work through the 5 Steps: "I Am" (identifying the need for a reset), "I Calm" (take a mindful breath), "I Feel" (naming their big feeling), "I Choose" (choosing a calming strategy), "I Solve" (taking steps to resolve their issue).

Students need a comfortable place to reset and be ready to problem solve!

The Safe Place is one of the centerpieces of our school's self-regulation program.
