My students are struggling readers and writers who often do not view themselves as capable of reading and writing to set standards. These students have often given up on themselves as taking on the attribute of being a reader and/or being a writer. One hurdle that many of them face is finding a place to be productive in the standard classroom setting.
Every single one of my students is a reader and every single one of my students is a writer; they just need the proper tools in order to show the world these skills.
By participating in my class, students work through their struggles and eventually begin to think, act, and create like readers and writers in the classroom. The collaborative nature of Literacy helps them to celebrate individual and class successes and also work through struggles together. My students are capable and can achieve anything that they put their minds to when they feel safe and comfortable within the learning environment.
My students are busy learners. They like to move around and find comfortable places that will help them to learn best. Many of my students fidget as they work and I would like to provide them with tools that will help them be able to fidget but not distract form their learning or the learning of others. The stools and bouncy bands will help my students who need movement while learning. The lap pads will help my students who need a little bit of touch as they work. The light covers will help to filter to florescent light so that my students can work in an environment with comfortable lighting.
All of these put together will create a comfortable learning environment to help my students thrive.
