This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are resilient. Nearly all of them are living in poverty and many have experienced trauma. Some are homeless or in foster care. They have infinite potential but are hindered by their circumstances.
They deserve a learning environment that does not look or reflect their poverty-status.
They are fighters. The children in my class show up to school each day with a smiling face, as our school is part of their community where they feel most at home. They know that this is one place they can depend on to be fed and cared for. Most importantly, they deserve educational equality and the opportunity to learn and grow to reach their full potentials.
My Project
Students come to school each day with many emotional struggles that often interfere with learning. Past trauma and living in poverty can cause the brain to respond differently to structured learning environments. Our students deserve the same materials and resources to make the classroom environment a place where they feel prideful to be. Cushions and beanbag chairs will be used for students to enjoy reading and learning while on the carpet, a time to get out of their desks and feel cozy--the best time to fall in love with learning and be a part of the classroom environment. Your donation will make a great difference to students who are well-deserving. My students will enjoy learning and feel prideful and comfortable in the classroom. They will take ownership over their property and learn how to take responsibility for shared and personal materials, such as the beanbags and cushions.
